First-Time Mom Melissa’s Calm and Unmedicated Hospital Birth

Melissa, a first-time mom, welcomed her baby Val three weeks early with an unmedicated hospital birth. After taking my Hypnobirthing: From Jitters to Joy Zoom course, she used affirmations and relaxation techniques to stay calm and in control. Her story shows that with preparation and Hypnobirthing tools, a positive birth experience is possible.

Hi Marlene,

I just wanted to fill you in on my birth experience! Baby decided to come 3 weeks early! Val was born 1/23! I woke up around 1:30am with what I thought was cramping... it was pretty intense so I figured it may be contractions and should start timing them. Couldn’t stay off the toilet, thought it was pee but wouldn’t stop dripping out, so I was holding a towel underneath me. Well, looking back my water obviously broke. Lol. I saw a little blood in the toilet. Contractions were pretty close so decided we should go to the hospital. Got there at 2:00am, was 6cm dilated. We got in the room, dimmed the lights. I just stayed in one position that kept me the most relaxed. I closed my eyes and kept going over my affirmations, really focusing on not tensing up. I imagined myself moving around a lot more. I started to feel the need to push and started at 7:30am. He was born at 8am! I had a natural childbirth with no medication and no tearing! All the nurses were in awe and said I should be the poster child for natural childbirth. I can’t thank you enough for educating me on hypnobirthing and giving me the tools to help me create that experience!

Sincerely,

Melissa & Ray
